Silver Nugget Casino shooting.

Sunday, June 25, 2006, security guards at the Silver Nugget Casino in North Las Vegas had begun clearing people out of billiards club after a disturbance involving several men and women in their late-teens and early twenties.

One person was killed and at least one other was wounded. A man's temper flared and he started a fight; he pulled out a gun and opened fire in the crowded casino. This happened early Sunday morning at the Silver Nugget, a small casino in North Las Vegas.

From a surveillance video taken, the detectives are hoping someone will recognize the shooter; it was released only hours after detectives got a hold of the video. While it was shot from a pretty wide angle, you can see the suspect gunman very clearly.

It appears that a fight broke out and seconds later, the casino floor exploded with gunfire. The shooting happened in a matter of seconds. Police arrived only a few minutes later, and discovered the carnage this suspect left behind. An innocent woman was wounded and one man was killed.

The wounded person appears to be a woman in her 40's, who was apparently playing slot machines at the time. She was shot in her hand and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sean Walker, North Las Vegas Police said, "It's disheartening and even a little bit scary to see someone so brazen in the middle of a casino pull out a weapon and begin firing."

What was alarming was this suspect had a concealed weapon under his sweatshirt the entire time he was at the casino and no one knew about it until it was too late.

"Our biggest concern right now is the gunman, he's got a weapon in a video, people should consider him armed and dangerous, we don't want people to confront him, you need to call the North Las Vegas police department if you know who he is or where he is," said Walker.

Silver Nugget is generally regarded as a local casino with an older crowd, but police say these kinds of incidents can happen almost anywhere. Detectives were on scene for nearly 10 hours, interviewing several witnesses and investigating the more for more evidences. Some people say that this kind is surprising that this happened at the Silver Nugget. Police didn't think much so.

One scary thing is that the man has already killed one person, and wounded another. That's why police want this man off the streets and behind bars, so he won't be able to do things like this ever again.

Police don't think it is gang related, but it is still very early in the investigation. They'll know much more, if and when they catch the suspect. The suspect is described as an African-American man in his late teens or early 20's. He was last seen wearing a dark sweatshirt with grey stripe over it. If you have any information on this suspect, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
